I'm in the process of a pending investigation by the postal authorities over mine. Everthing I can do is on hold til that ends (so I can use it). It appears that a mail delivery person used my information (when I was in the process of moving and I changed my address for everything online including my vehicle registration and drivers license) and this person had all of my mail forwarded to a post office box and then proceeded to take out new credit in my name and charge them to the limits and not pay a dime. When the 90 day mark hit, so did my credit rating. It hit the floor. I only caught it because I stopped receiving mail and I check my credit report every 90 days. There are now 8 million people using stolen identities in the U.S. (according to the latest figures). I contacted an attorney specializing in this and got some interesting facts.

My recommendation: Have 2 accounts when it comes to cash. Have everything deposited into one account and transfer money into the 2nd account only as you need it. Use the card for the 2nd account, not the 1st one only.

>I had someone try to charge $2,242 on one of my credit/debit cards. Good news is that the balance was slightly less than that, so it was just sitting there waiting to be paid. I used the card tonight and it was declined. I knew there was plenty of cash in the account for what I was trying to purchase, so I was at a loss as to what was up. I called my bank and they asked me if I knew of any company called SBUUX, which I didn't. They were the company who had the pending charge. My bank cancelled the card and are overnighting me a new one. Good thing I found out today as tomorrow evening my paycheck would have gone in and the pending charge would have been paid. This is a replacement card for one that expired at the end of September, so I've only had it a couple weeks and have only paid a few utilities and made two purchases at places I've ordered often before; Amazon and such.

>How does this happen? I don't have any of the information written down. I run anti-everything software to keep my laptop clean. What else can I do?

>Happened to me last year - someone tried to use my card to Western Union one large to a friend of his. Fortunately my bank caught it - eventually found out that a guy at a local pizza shop took my card info, and then did a check to find out more info about me. I got a new card - he made a new friend in prison...it's a fair cop.
