Yeah, this sort of thing has been in the news a lot lately. I agree this is an unusually stupid way for people to behave. And what a ridiculous excuse - "It (the hijab) could be used to strangle somebody." I thought that was what referees were for - to make sure the rules are followed. Is it permissible in the rules to strangle an opponent in amateur sports in Canada?
Waheeda Masood from Surrey, BC has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and is a multi medal winner, and she said that she has always worn a hijab in competition. But then, she has probably never strangled anyone with it.
This is either racist or just plain stupid, but either way, something has to change.
