>>Define "few" years. Right now, you have to have additional gear to even get true HDTV. I figure my Vizio 50" 768 will last a few years, then who knows what technology will reign. You know Sony has developed a tv that is paper thin. How does that figure into the mix?

>I can choose from several satelite channels which transmit true HD (1920x1080) today, is that soon enough for your? And while many channels still transmit with "normal" definition, most channels have announced that they will switch as soon as the demand is big enough. With the speed things are changing now, 2010 is mentioned as when this change may happen. I wouldn't buy a TV today which would be out dated in three years.

>And no, I have not heard about Sony's paper thin TV, unless you talk about one of the many products which they show "pre-alpha" video snippets of. 99% of these products die a silent death.
I'm sure the paper thin tv technology won't be thrown away, so you can expect another change in the future.
I think it will be more than 5 years before demand reaches a critical mass on the HDTV stuff, but that's just MHO. At any rate, I bought the Vizio and I'm happy with it. When something better comes out (for the money) I'll look at that.
