Thanks for the info, John. After looking the Help file some more, I found that another manual process you can do:

1) run MKSS.EXE to create an older style SS database
2) run DDCONV.EXE on that new folder to update it to the current SS database format.
3) make additional changes to your SRCSAFE.INI and SS.INI files as needed.

Crude, but effective. I am glad to hear they made this a menu option in 6. Thanks again.
