There is very little sugar production anymore (in comparison) in Hawaii so we would have to rely on other countries for it (not better than oil) and
create a new dependency on foreign supplies. In Hawaii, it doesn't make much sense to grow sugar cane when cut flowers and foliage plants for nurseries, which grow faster in Hawaii than anywhere else in the U.S., can generate up to $100,000 per acre.
