Sounds like a stupid rule, as usual. Let's make an absolute rule so we don't have to use judgement, instead of coming up with something that makes sense.

First, if it's really "all electronic equipment," then calculators must be banned.

Second, I think HS kids should be carrying a cell phone, if they have one. During classes, it should be turned off and put away.

Third, as long as it doesn't interfere with education, it's really not the school's business whether a student has an MP3 player or CD player.

I really hate it when adults try to avoid taking responsibility by making absolute rules.
