>Hmmm... Do you have any addons/modifications to VS2008 loaded?

Nope, straight vanilla install. The only thing that might be different is that it's loaded on a Virtual machine, but unless I royally screwed up the creation of the Virtual machine (and I don't see how ... everything else seems fine), then it's really a vanilla install.

Hmmmm ... there *is* one thing different though. When the virtual machine was initially created (a very vanilla machine with no extra stuff at all), someone limited it to a small hard disk size ... I think they didn't realize that it was an expandable drive. I use a copy of that virtual machine file so I don't have reload the operating system (XP Pro SP2). So, in order to install VS2008, I needed to attach another virtual drive and install VS2008 to the second drive. Now, when I did that, I *did* notice tha some stuff gets put on the C drive and some stuff gets put on the D drive. I wonder if that's the cause of all this trouble???? Arggghhhhh! I guess I need to rule that out, don't I? Jeez, back to the drawing board. =0(

>One more really oddball idea... but before I converted I moved my projects from the VS2007 directory to the VS2008 directory. (Another shot in the dark)

Nah, I never keep my projects in those directories anyway. I like to be able to find my stuff! I hate those super-long file paths!! <g>

I don't see that VS2008 is storing the sortation when it saves it's files, when I look in the sln/suo files the order looks somewhat random, which makes me wonder if some setting or addon is preventing the sortation during load up.

I have *no* idea what determines the sortation (is that a real word? <g>).

Anyway, the whole 2-drive thing may be part of the problem. Monday when I'm back in the office I may have to spend some time installing a new virtual machine on the Remote Server, this time without limiting the disk size to a ridiculously small size. <g> Or maybe I might even do it from home this weekend (a PITA remotely, but even in the office it's slow. Anyway, will keep you posted, if you're interested.

And thanks for the suggestions! Just thinking about it in a slightly different light made me suddenly think that maybe the problem was the installation all along.
