IMO one of the things that hurt your cause was the vote tallies were always imprecise, almost slippery feeling. You used lots of vague phrases like "most people" and "three times as many" without ever giving a straight-up count. In the end it was "a majority," again unsupported. We may be a bunch of geeky gearheads but one thing gearheads have going for them is they prefer precise statements to vague ones.

Also, I would bet dollars to donuts there were some who let Michel know privately they were against the idea but didn't vote publicly.
