Just 2 points, then I'm removing chatter from my profile for an extended period.

1) Woodie has been exceptional about this whole matter. Actually I suspect he would have said nothing had I not noticed and queried the sudden removal of a very impressive part of his sig. Yeah, my fault it was raised, right? ;-) Anyway, IMHO Woodie has gone up an extra notch in the respect tree simply because of the way he's handled this. I strongly suspect I'm not alone in thinking that way.

2) Unfortunately the other resulting furore will have been delicious to the culprit who now has an incentive to do it again. Forewarned is forearmed: those who feel that employers might take notice of an anonymous snipe are well advised to get in first. Let your employer know that there has been unusual behavior by one or two people in online forums. Apparently an anonymous poster has been sending bizarre anonymous allegations to employers listed on professional developer sites and even to a State Governor's office after one member mentioned that he'd done some work for them. Should your employer receive a strange e-mail like that, rather than discarding it you'd be grateful if they'd preserve the header to assist in tracking down and blocking the culprits.

Not that I think it will be possible to catch the perpetrator (getting away with it is part of their buzz) but the above takes most if not all of the sting out of it.

Apart from that, I think we need to ignore it: the secret power to cause ructions is not something we want to foster or reward.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
