>That said, I find lots of behavior on the UT (and in some, but not all, of the other online venues I visit) childish.

I think a lack of objectivity rather than maturity is a bigger problem.

>I think there's a place for profanity and I've been known to use it myself. But it loses it power and utility when used all the time, plus it offends people, so they don't listen to one's ideas.

I agree.

I've posted 11,000+ messages, according to the stats. (That seems a little ridiculous to me, but I'm still here, hehe.)

I've posted maybe a couple dozen with profanity. It's more for a laugh than anything.

FWIW, what Sean Connery says to Alex Trebeck on SNL's Celebrity Jeopardy is worse than anything I said here. And that gets a TV14 rating.

>As you know, Mike, you're the same age as my elder son. When he was a teen, he made a point of using profanity often for the reaction it brought. But now, at 25, he understands that he's more credible when he limits the use of that kind of language. In almost every situation, a strongly-worded opinion that doesn't use profanity is much more powerful than one that does.

Sure. That's your style.

I think life is an art form, and I don't paint by numbers.
