>You said there are mapped drives and that occasionally the launcher does "nothing." Both sound familiar. But what did you learn after the investigation and how will ADIR help?

But I really need something that will work dependably for every user before I deploy a total re-write of the app in May. If we accept that not all users will have admin rights, is there a launcher that does work?

I spent some time yesterday trying to uncover the reason my launcher does nothing at times. We have user accounts on the server. With one exception, the password for the machine login is the same as the password for the account on the server. One user changed his password. I went to that machine and connected the mapped drive to the server without using his personal password. I also clicked remember password. It is the only machine that is working perfectly. ADIR did nothing. The code was already doing a directory() which also did nothing. On the other machines clicking on the mapped drive with Explorer "wakes" it up.

So you may be seeing what I'm seeing and/or having problems with admin rights on the local PC. Doug Hennig has done much with overcoming Vista-related installation problems.
