It does seem to be an incompatibility between the CD and the new DVD reader. The CD works on the old machine. I will try a load through my local network, or will perhaps move my old CD Drive to the new machine.

I’ve been on hold for s couple of days now as my new machine gave up. A rise in core processor temperature during prolonged (10 minute) heavy processor/disk activity would send the fan into a frenzy, but to no avail. The machine would shut down anyway. A utility called “speedfan” showed that the machine would shut down consistently when the core processor temperature reached 82 degrees C (180F). My new machine has been returned, and another one is now on order.

Great suggestions from all. Thanks.

Bob

>I presume your new machine is having trouble reading the older CD-ROM? Are you sure the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive in the newer computer is operating correctly? One thing that you might try is hook the old and new machines up in a network, share the CD/DVD drive on the older machine and install through the shared drive. On occasion I've run into situations where a copy made on a CD/DVD burner worked when the original didn't (obviously the disc had to be burned on another machine which could reliably read the original).
