Tracy, I believe I was the first to alter my location as a spoof defence against external nasties. Not one word was said by UT management until very recently. So, I don't believe that UT management has a severe "shoot first and ask questions afterwards" attitude to the rules. IMHO they would have said nothing about our minor indiscretion until they were provoked to enforce rules. Once you start to enforce rules, any laxity you have allowed becomes a risk and generally has to be closed. Plus, Michel does seem to have taken note of the security implications. It doesn't come across as rigid and "GodKing" AFAICS.

This does support the notion that something momentous has occurred recently.

Having previously suggested that our anonymous coward has struck again, based on more recent comments I must say that "a certain person" may have something to do with all this. If I'm right, then a certain theme running through recent threads may be relevant and Michel simply may be unable to comment further at this time.
