Use READWRITE clause.
SELECT ;
>    prod_no, ;
>    .f. As lSelect;
>  FROM specs ;
>  ORDER BY prod_no ;
>  INTO CURSOR tmpSpecs READWRITE
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
