Was that the speaker's viewpoint or is it yours? The government is already the largest employer in the U.S. Even at the county level, that often is the case. The worst thing that could happen to our economy is to prop it up with more non-productive jobs. Education would serve everyone much more for the future. Before we start handing out even more jobs, how about handing out an education instead.

Or did you mean use the government in the sense of creating an atmosphere here that promotes more new private enterprises which would hire? They would still require qualified workers.
