Tracy,

>You still choose to not understand my questions or points. My numbers were for the aid for the entire year for all aid, not just that one incident.

I don't know. I'd have to spend searching that on the net. But if you read the link in my previous post, you see the total forreign aid per capita subdivided by government and private. The US gives a lot through private donations, I'll grant you that, but there are countries that give even more. The governmental side it just pale if you compare that to the rest of the western world.

>How much money did individuals give? From your country? From mine? We are not just a government here, we are individuals who act independently and donate independently. We do not give all our money to our government and expect our government do act in lieu of what we, as individuals should and can do. That is quite different from the way of thinking in your country I realize.

There was a national collection of funds (Giro 555) on which 183 million euro was collected (more than 11 euro per capita) for that event. On top of that the government spend about 240 million (40 direct emergency aid, 200 million later).

Remember the above are euros (not dollars) and this was collected out of a population of 16 million.

Again some more articles on forreign aid statistics (also read the links in there).

and a very nice one with drilldown graphs

Bottom line. I think that the overal feeling that the US is spending more than anyone on forreign aid is not true. There are other countries giving more per capita in about every aspect.
