If I understand correctly, '10 year' remark appeared well inside the thread, i.e. it was not the first reply; and at the point of appearance emotions were already heated enough to 'justify' thorough considerations who said what.

>I disagree. However, I agree that he didn't need to sink that low and reply snarkily himself (two wrongs don't make a right). I was not going to respond in this thread at all, but really, for as rude as Jay can be at times (and he can be), in this case his initial reponses were justified. His feelings were hurt and with cause.

>The message to him was not a recommendation to look in the help file before posting (as you describe), it was a rude remark stating that posting before using help was not acceptable for someone with 10 years of experience. It was judgmental.
>
>I think this (going back and forth complaining) and the initial judgmental response are the biggest reasons people don't like to post on the UT anymore. I can't see why any one would want to post a question here if the result is only to be insulted for doing so.

>>Methinks you could take some of your own advice here. There was no need to respond to Naomi as snarkily as you did. Personally, I thought it was a rather rude response to a simple "did you look in the help file" question, and trust me, rude and I are on a first name basis. A better response might have been "yes, but it didn't make sense" or "yes, but I didn't see how it applied", or even "Yes, and my syntax is correct so it doesn't make sense to me that it's returning a 'wrong' response".
>>
>>If you don't like (or agree) with a response you get, take your OWN advice either ignore it, or respond with a simple 'thank you for your response', but there's no need to jump down someone's throat because they asked you what was, in their minds, a relevent question.
