I used to live across the road from a guy who did that. It always smelled like french fries to me. (he had a problem with mice too) :o) It also was rather labor intensive I thought - not cheap if you calculated your time and effort involved. I don't remember everything involved, but I do know that he had to run it through some process before he could use it and I remember thinking that it didn't save enough money that I would be willing to do it. But then, there are a lot of things I
could do to save money but won't if it is too labor or time intensive :o) I think that comes from having to work on a farm and do it all so that I now appreciate
convenience and in most cases, am willing to pay for it :o) Like chopping wood, hoeing the fields, collecting eggs, milking the cows (or goats), making jams and jellies and canned vegetables (canning period). I don't enjoy making them after having to do it every year. Yet I know people who revel in doing just that.
