Yes, I've heard that the smell of fries is generally true. As the price of fuel keeps rising, along with the price of food because of the amount of corn being used for fuel, it's becoming more and more economical even if it's a bit labour intensive. I'm pretty sure that it won't be long either before somebody comes out with a device that will do the cleaning of the oil for you, and make it a lot less labour intensive and even more economical. I've heard predictions that the expected price of a barrel of oil within the next 5 years might well hit $250.00 US. Think what that will mean at the pump. With Diesel, getting almost double the mileage means the cost of fuel is about half that of gas. In fact, I don't know why diesel engines are not a hack of a lot more prevalent in North America right now.

(he had a problem with mice too) :o) It also was rather labor intensive I thought - not cheap if you calculated your time and effort involved. I don't remember everything involved, but I do know that he had to run it through some process before he could use it and I remember thinking that it didn't save enough money that I would be willing to do it. But then, there are a lot of things I could do to save money but won't if it is too labor or time intensive :o) I think that comes from having to work on a farm and do it all so that I now appreciate convenience and in most cases, am willing to pay for it :o) Like chopping wood, hoeing the fields, collecting eggs, milking the cows (or goats), making jams and jellies and canned vegetables (canning period). I don't enjoy making them after having to do it every year. Yet I know people who revel in doing just that.
