Both my kids (25 and 22) are on Facebook and it's a _big_ thing in their social circles. I've actually watched groups of college kids sit around with their computers and have an interaction that involved Facebook as well as conversation.
Facebook is how they keep in touch with their friends. In some ways, in fact, it's like the Chatter section here. It lets them keep people up to date, share ideas, etc., etc.
