Not necessarily. Instead of filling that fifth plate overeaters will know that they will pay for the stuff they leave in their plate. So perhaps that fifth plate will have less food in it.

I think it teaches overeating. Somehow the lesson to take less to begin with never sinks in. Given the percentage of overweight Americans I don't think it is rare...
