However, where I come from phonetics are easy in that "u" (as in butcher) and "oo" (as in wood) are all pronounced "oo" as in wood. ie luck and look sound the same (though the "ck" is more "chhh", as in the German "buch" - though commonly the English think Scousers say "bewchh" and "lewchhh".
