(FWIW, one of the things I admire about him now is that he doesn't assume the electorate are idiots who have to be fed sound bites. He talks as though we have functioning brains, and can understand nuance.)

There was never any expectation that I'd go to faculty meetings or be involved in internal politics. I got paid for teaching the courses I taught and was expected to do the teaching and hold some office hours.

I had some great professors in college. I attended 3 different colleges, and at each one, at least one professor would constantly change his/her position on an issue and force the students to argue the opposing view. That is a great professor. Only when you can see both sides can you really take a stance. It also made you see how both sides of an issue may have valid reasons for their position and in most cases, neither side could be completely supported without finding at least one or two holes in the logic. Students were constantly changing their own position on an issue after each argument (debate).
