>I am surprised that the public in general is willing to trust a trained layman with a gun (police and school resource officers) but aren't willing to consider that a teacher with an education and a degree could be trained to use it in only appropriate situations... Both jobs are very stressful and we don't take the guns away from all policemen when one of them use poor judgment in using it.
Cops chase crimals at work, teachers are surrounded by children all day long at work. Doesn't sound like an "apporiate sitution" to be packin a loaded gun at a shchool to me...sounds more like "poor judgment". And oh yeah no tassers, pepper spray, teargas or whatever other crowd control gizmos they want to come up with. I'm not real crazy about turning the schools into prisons either by hiring a bunch of $7/hr security gards either. If you have to hire more people to put in the school - hire some more teachers and make the class sizes smaller.
