>>>>A country that deserves as little respect and as much derision for their human rights offenses as China does should not be allowed to reap the rewards that are generated by hosting something as well loved as the Olympic games. They simply have not earned the right.
>>>
>>>Since when human rights violations were criteria for someone hosting Olimpics or not ??!
>>>
>>>If that is the case, would you object at any country that is grossly violating peoples human rights
>>>(as in US,UK,Israel,Mynamar etc) hosting Olimpics as well, or you also reserve right to distinguish whose HR violations
>>>are unforgivable (and thus 'inadmissable') , and whose are 'cosher' since they are done in the name of spreading 'Democracy' (& Human Rights to) ?

>>>Based on what High & Mighty, Holly & Molly, Righteosness such thing is to be decided ???

>>They promised to set up separate protest areas. They did, and then they refused every request for a permit to protest, and in fact, threw people in jail for making the request. If you call my attitude toward that sort of evil, high and mighty righteousness, then fine. I can live with it.

>>If you feel a country that acts that way (not to mention Tiananmen Square - which they try to pretend never happened) deserves to be rewarded with the honour of hosting the Olympic games, then great - you live with that. I'll live with my high and mighty righteousness.

>Did not mean your 'High & mighty' rigteosness, but actually prevalent hypocricy of our civilisation which tends to be so judgmental towards everybody else yet maintaining constantly double standards. (You did not answer would you have problem with 'new' human rights violators
>as in US,UK etc)

>I simply believe that Olimpics should not be utilised in political purposes that is all. Who insisted on making 'protest areas' and for what purpose exactly ?

The protest areas were created because protests are a fact of life at the olympics, and it was decided years ago to try to keep the protests more or less isolated as much as possible. But because they were a fact of life, there was no movement to stop them and jail the participants (until China).

You don't think China, with their antics before and during the Olympics weren't treating the whole thing politically? The Olympics has always been a political football. Countries have boycotted various olympics at different times. There are few countries that are as blatant in their human rights violations as China. Should we next award the Olympics to North Korea, or maybe to Zimbabwe? Somewhere a line has to be drawn over which we should not step. Should we be content to award the olympics to a country that steals it's citizens homes to build an arena?

I agree that almost every country in the world is probably guilty of some violation, but finding countries that are as bad as China is a difficult task. I see hosting the Olympics as an honour, and I don't believe that honour should be sullied by giving it to a country that has done nothing to earn it.
