>I agree that almost every country in the world is probably guilty of some violation, but finding countries that are as bad as China is a difficult task. I see hosting the Olympics as an honour, and I don't believe that honour should be sullied by giving it to a country that has done nothing to earn it.

Not so dificult, depend how hard you are prepared to google, and what country You decide to use as keyword <g>
Now if You believe there should be a 'line' and more over that there is certain group of countries 'ellegible' to draw that
that line for everybody else, then we have to agree to disagree.

I am by all means against human right abuses, and have no warm feeling about China communist regime not soever
(I grew up in one of those!) but having in mind today propaganda and politics that are played, your initial message stroke
me somewhat like a common mainstream media buzz intoxication.

China have its own social model which we all have right to disagree with, but we also have to practice
minimum dose of common deacency and respect when it comes to international relations. That is clearly lacking in western hemisphere which somehow believe that they are god given gift, self appointed as judge and the jurror for everybody else. That is what I heave problem with.
Some decade back I would probably share your opinion (democracy was big bright ideal), but now any time I hear word 'democracy' and that very specific pitch of intense whining about supressed human rights, directed towards countries (that almost always coincide with some strategic western interests), I get urge to go to go to toilet <g>.

It almost always ends with dissaster;
Wars, attrocities, sometime dessolution of entire countries (mine for instance), violence, etc. We were listening for years about Saddam's attrocities and it ended with invasion and total disasster for that country. Did we ever hear anything about Saudis, or Kuwaitees ? We are listening all the time about human rights in Iran and they are in imminent danger of being brutallised. How many things did we hear about Israel /Palestinian HRs ? (Care to google on this ?) If that is democracy in action, then I certainly
don't want to be part of it in any way.

As I said, I don't belive Olimpics should be politicised at all. I don't believe there is 'Olimpic law' that organiser have to
make provisions for everybody who wishes to protest. For crying out loud, olimpics were designed as break from ongoing wars
why in earth Chineese should tollerate political war being waged right arround Olimpic coloseums ?

If there was genuine uphieval of Chineese people against their regime, you would probably see millions of them arround there
and there would be nobody able to stop them, but they are simply way to busy working and making money by seeling cheap stuff to us. <g>

And they did organise great Olimpics.
