My Republican upbringing??? My parents are (were) life-long Blue Dog Democrats. I am a libertarian. I'm anti-victimless crimes, for decriminalizing recreational drug use, and vehemently against any federal abortion legislation for or against. I'm also anti constitutional marriage amendment and strongly in favor of civil unions with 100% of the same rights to healthcare and inheritance as regular marriages.

For me, I'd draw an analogy to a Green who waxes enthusiastically about a Democratic candidate I suppose.
