I agree completely with Obama that the candidates' families, especially children, should be off limits. To me this girl's situation is none of my concern. But it's not hard to understand why it made the news. Her mother was chosen by McCain in part for her appeal to the family values, abstinence-only wing of the party. The situation would be the same if, for example, a candidate had a reputation for denouncing homosexuals and then turned out to have a gay family member.

Please understand that the girl has my sincere sympathy. That's a tough situation to be in anyway, and now the whole world knows about it. I think I would want to go far away from civilization for a while. (Alaska, maybe <g>).
