>>So... can't be against religious extremism and terrorism of one kind in one place, and support the same kind, and the same people, in another. Shoots one's credibility full of holes. And don't tell me that the communist overlay was camouflage - in that case, how can you trust their love for America? There are ample hints that they're just trying to milk the situation for what it's worth.

>Can you remind me, what was the UN position at the time? What was the UN's role? Was it a solely US action or a UN action?

Frankly, I can't, because "the time" I have in mind starts with seventies. Most of the time, UN wasn't even aware that it may need to have any role at all. Last I remember was the loss of NATO's virginity: the 1999 bombing was the first time NATO went to war without an invitation of a member country, and without a green light from UN SC. Worse, the war was supposed to be finished in three days, and the victory celebrated at their 50th anniversary - and also the finding of a new reason to remain in existence after the Warsaw pact was dismantled. Didn't happen that way.

UN was present in the neighborhood. The June 1999 peace agreement meant that the UN troops would walk into Kosovo and Metohija, and take over. Which they did, but the Russians surprised everybody by moving theirs from Bosnia one day ahead of the others, thus stealing the spotlight. The other stealer of spotlight was the long line of AY tanks and trucks which left the area undamaged. After 77 days of bombing with depleted uranium, cluster bombs and whatnot, one tank was damaged and one truck destroyed.
