>Frankly, I can't, because "the time" I have in mind starts with seventies. Most of the time, UN wasn't even aware that it may need to have any role at all. Last I remember was the loss of NATO's virginity: the 1999 bombing was the first time NATO went to war without an invitation of a member country, and without a green light from UN SC. Worse, the war was supposed to be finished in three days, and the victory celebrated at their 50th anniversary - and also the finding of a new reason to remain in existence after the Warsaw pact was dismantled. Didn't happen that way.
