Thanks for your suggestion. On the new Vista box, the D: drive is a partition of the primary hard drive. The D: partition is small and has just one folder called Recovery that has files for restoring the origianal configuration of the PC. The manufacturer (HP) wants the owner to leave that partition alone.

So is what you are suggesting still do-able? Can I change the drive designation of that partition?
