>>>>bolesnik - the afflicted?
>>>
>>>That's "bolestan" - adjective. "Bolesnik" is a noun, denotes the afflicted person.
>>
>>But also a noun. Someone is the afflicted.
>
>So the two meanings are wordmates... sharing the same word, not having one of their own - which is the content of those pages, meanings without their own words. Besides, the derivatives "bolesnicki krevet" - "the afflictedski bed"?
>
>>>>inostranstvo - just "abroad" covers that
>>>
>>>This is also a noun, not an adverb. "Putovanje u inostranstvo" - "a travel into abroad"?
>>
>>We "travel abroad"
>
>And you return from abroad, if you're Sloba you drag the abroad closer (by losing land :)... probably covers the common usage but not the derivatives. "U zemlji i inostranstvu" - "in the country and abroad", OK, "inostrana firma" - "a foreign company"... well, may still work. Disassembled, "inostranstvo" is "othersidehood", or "othercountryhood", and "stran" is, amazingly, the same as in "stranger".

>>To spoil (as in fruit). Also "go to seed" as in a human who's let him/herself go.
>
>But "pokvario se kamion" - "the truck broke" although all of its pieces are in one piece each. It just doesn't work.

Broke down

>>>>kvocka - rooster?
>>>
>>>The lying hen, "kvocati" is "to make sound as a lying hen".
>>
>>Chickens come home to roost.
>
>Say, the word "chicken" applies to these birds when they are... what age exactly? Or is it a chicken at any age, but becomes a hen or a rooster only when in those roles, i.e. sitting on an egg or playing a Casanova or alarm clock? Because we have one general names for this sort of poultry, then another for poultry in general, and "pile" (probably from French poulee (sp?)) for their young. This being quite an unimportant subject, I never pursued it to full understanding... and now I'm just as ignorant as I was decades ago.

(Poultry) hens and cocks are "chickens" at all stages of their lives. When young they are chicken chicks

Of course the terms hen and cock pertain to al;l birds, denoting the sex, just as bull and cow are used for elephants, seals, et al.

>>>>podatak - I use datum and data and sod those who don't understand.
>>>
>>>So do I, but very few know it, and even fewer use it. But just going ahead and simply using the word may beat a path. Not impossible.
>
>FYI, just did today :).

Yeah, why say "a data item" when "a datum" will do.
- Whoever said that women are the weaker sex never tried to wrest the bedclothes off one in the middle of the night
- Worry is the interest you pay, in advance, for a loan that you may never need to take out.
