When running on my Vista machine VFP and MS SQL still run fine, but when using MySQL certain operations are very slow. I sort of suspect something in the workings of the MySQL ODBC Driver but I'm not sure. I have tested with versions 3.51 & 5.1 of the MySQL ODBC drivers and get the same results. My queries using SQL pass thru work fine but the initial creation of remote views (with NODATA option) can be painfully slow (Several Minutes)!

Are the backend databases on separate computer(s)/server(s), or on your local XP or Vista machines? IOW are you accessing the backend databases across a network, or on your local machine(s)?

Is there any virtualization going on?
