I've wondered about charity similarly. Specifically with cancer research: when I see funding efforts for lung or breast cancer I'm curious about why it's a particular organ or gland. Is it because the whole nature of each is so different from the others? Or could I, for example, when making a contribution to breast cancer charities specify on my check that it is for "right only" or "left only"?
