If you compare his character with young Fast Eddie in "The Huster" (and the overall tone of the two movies) the difference is really pronounced (though in fairness I watched The Color of Money recently and didn't hate it as much - maybe this time I let Mary Elizabeth Mastroantonnio get to me ;-)

If you're going to worry about comparing Cruise's work in 'Color' with Newman's in 'Hustler', or even try to compare the movies themselves, you are going to grow into a very frustrated old man. ;)

Seriously, everything about 'The Hustler' was great. George C. Scott.. well, it's hard to believe anybody could be that good. Didn't you just hate him? A lot like his role in 'Anatomy of a Murder'. He was so good in that, that I wanted to put my foot through the tv when I first saw it many many moons ago.
