>>The book was announced in July, well before she was selected as the moderator, which was agreed to by both campaigns. Seems a little late to be making an issue of it now.

>Interesting that the McCain camp states they were not aware of the book when she was chosen, although they didn't demand a new moderator but rather stated they thought she could be fair and would participate.

>I am surprised that everyone is ok with it. She clearly has a personal and financial stake in Obama's winning. She actually should pull herself out of the debate. I recall the dems refusing to participate in the debate held by Fox back when and everyone thought that was as it should be. Yet when the shoe is on the other foot... interesting... (just reflecting on coments in general from many, not anyone in particular)

In fairness, Tracy, I think the people at NBC can honestly say they don't know *anyone* who would have a problem with it. That is the interesting part. ( I know for a fact that a common utterance at better Manhatten parties in December, 1984, was "I don't understand it. I don't know *anyone* who voted for Reagan.")

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
