>>I wonder who the teachers feel is more likely to pour even more money into a poorly managed public school system? Dallas School District will layoff over a thousand teachers because they are facing $84,000,000.00 budget deficit. Public schools are in such bad shape.. and who runs these major school district? for decades, democrats. Isn't it time for a CHANGE?

>I have to agree with you there. Entrenched bureaucracies who resist change are not admirable to me, no matter what their politics are. There was a very interesting piece in Newsweek a few weeks ago about the young head of the DC school system (one of the country's worst). Here it is -- http://www.newsweek.com/id/154901. Note the quote near the end about her feeling embarrassed as a Democrat about how Democrats have been running schools. You can see what a battle she is facing.

I've heard that studies show a correlation between the amount of money pumped into public school systems and poor performance. The more money they get, they worse the kids do. Of course, that might have something to do with the fact that most of that money goes for administrative costs. Memphis is one of the worst in the country, but I think I may be seeing some signs of a turnaroud. We have a new superintendent, and they are starting to do some things a little differently. We'll see....
