As to a point you so casually threw out earlier, McCain was cleared in the Keating 5 scandal, by none other, than Robert Bennett. He was a clinton attack dog, as I recall, and he says he investigated McCain for 1.5 years and he tried to get the Ds to drop him from the investigation, because he had done nothing wrong. I believe he also said something along the lines of , "I don't agree with him on many issues, but I do believe John McCain is an honest man."
