Remote desktop resolution is 1280 x 1024. mstsc.exe version 6.0.6001.18000

When connecting I ask to "Display the connection bar when in full screen mode", but when window is maximized it looks like a normal window with name on top, maximize, minimize and close buttons. That, coupled with the windows taskbar, which I like to keep visible, makes the viewport too small. Hiding the task bar helps but a horizontal scrollbar appears, which shouldn't since ample horizontal space is available. Seems Windows sets the overall window to the width it wants but vertical scroolbar robs space requiring horizontal scroll bar.
