from my point of view the question would be why

IOW what would you achieve that you can not do with a grid? (There are things)

If there is a need for just displaying data (not edit) then I simple export to excel and let the user do with excel what he likes to do - but out of my responsibility.

We even have a app where we create a complex excel sheet, hand it to the user, he alters it and we import it back.
