>>Hi,

>>I am browsing Dell site for a new notebook. I noticed considerable price difference between 4 Gb memory on 1 vs 2 DIMM chips ($390 difference). Does it make a lot of practical sense to have the memory on 1 chip vs 2 (for that kind of money)?

>Not unless you plan on upgrading to more memory. Most notebooks only have room for 2 chips, so if you think 4 GB is enough, then go with the cheaper 2 chip option. If you're planning on upgrading to 8 GB at some point, you might want to think about the 1 chip option (so you don't end up throwing out both chips to do the upgrade).
Thank you for the explanation. I probably will not need more than 4 GB of memory. I was simply surprised that the cost of one 4 GB chip is so much more than two 2 GB chips.
Now I am looking at what is the most cost-effective CPU configuration I need.
