I moved to keep options open. Where I was there are very little tech jobs ( more like none and very low on salary scale if you found one ) and no user groups etc...

I have been with same company for 10 years and am pretty secure if I want, but my wife got a good opportunity here so I asked to transfer. It allows me to "divest" now and attend .Net user groups if I want and also if I get the urge to move on ( or have to ) the Austin economy is still rocking and finding a new job would not be that hard for the near future. Our transition from VFP to .Net is slower than I want and I get the hankering every so often to move forward.

We live northwest out of Austin and I drive 20 minutes into work to keep the kids out of a 5A school. We like it so far. I used to work for the state in another life so I have spent enough time down here to know I like it better than Big D or H town.
