Hi Kevin,

Extensibility and scalability was the key for us - SSIS 2005 was the start of a truly scalable SQL ETL environment.

The architect for the SQL Server DTS/SSIS team was Mike Blaszcak - he is one of the guys responsible for building and maintaining MFC and is one hell of a developer (he now works on the Valve Steam distribution network for Valve).

We are about to move our data warehousing to SQL 2008 - we have a real cool SLA with our customer who insist the software stack has to be on current versions of software within 6 months of RTM. I really like the new scripting engine (VSTA) and we are measuring increases of between 40-65% which is largely down to increased parallelism in execution trees.
