Hi Bill.
>Agreed, for me it's been a painful process just to work with the thing. It's unbelievable that MS cannot make a secure OS w/o making it "secure" from legitimate users.
I've been using Vista for more than 2 years and don't have any problems with it. I'm curious as to what you see are the problems. Perhaps it's poorly written programs that need to be updated.
>Do you know of any web sites with detailed info on how to deal with some of the overly "secure" features of the thing? E.g. is there a way to register an exe ( w/o a full install process executed ) with the OS so Vista will not prompt every time the exe is launched?
Vista doesn't ask you to elevate when you run an EXE unless there are some special things about the EXE:
- If the name contains the words "Setup" or "Update", Vista thinks it may be an installer so asks for elevation.
- If the EXE has a manifest that dictates the application requires admin priviledges, it'll ask for elevation.
