>I meant the ability to break from the United States to become it's own State again. Up until the Civil War, Texas was the only state that could legally leave the Union and be 'the United States of Texas' again. If memory serves, and I don't swear it does, Texas also had to give up the option of breaking into 5 separate states at the same time.
So what's next? The counties become thier own feifdoms, then individual neighbourhoods?
We have similar pushes up here where provinces want the freedom to go their own way apart from the federal government. Personally, I'm a bit of a centrist. I can't see the point of having a 'country', if all it really is is a loose collection of states that are allowed to do whatever they like however they like. When I travel across Canada, I would like very much to know that wherever I am in the country, I'll be subject to the same laws, regulations, health options, etc as anywhere else in the country. Otherwise, why bother with the country at all? Even now, each province often will have their own special little deals with the feds to the detriment of the rest of the country. I feel I'm a citizen of Canada more than a citizen of Ontario, or Toronto, or Lunsfield Crescent.

>>>Funny, that's one of the things that Texas had to give up to be allowed back into the Union after the Civil War (or, if you prefer, the War of Northern Aggression ;-))
