>>>I need to get someone a very simple MP3 player that has very easy to use software to load songs on to it. My girl loves her iPod, but the iTunes software is much more complicated to use (for me anyway) that it needs to be. A friend of mine - not computer literate much - wants to get a player and I want to make it as foolproof as possible. I've tried to just copy songs onto an iPod, but if you don't use the iTunes, it doesn't seem to work. Any recommendations for either the player or the software?

>>CC, iTunes allows you to include other libraries (folders) on your pc, doesn't it? You can include the folders with other tunes on. I've done this with other uploaded files, eg those I got from Limewire, and tracks ripped from CDs.

I agree. ITunes seems great and fully functional if you want it to organize your music, but I organize mine on the file system level and just want to drag and drop. Let me know what you find that works.
Very fitting: http://xkcd.com/386/
