>>>You are making the assumption that all "hunters" ( i.e. any yahoo with a gun who gets a license - or not ) is "trained" The whole point of the discussion is that like operating a motor vehicle, airplane, power saw or chemistry set, training means knowing how all that stuff can kill you and acting appropriately. A kid who is interested in guns ( thanks to TV and popular culture ) who is over at a friend's house when the kid pulls out the gun he found is in a lot more danger if he learned about guns on TV. I assume you've never been on a shooting range but I can tell you for a fact it is a lot safer than a freeway. People who really understand guns don't play with them and exercise very intense (armed) peer pressure that discourages bad behavior from the those who are armed while stupid.

>This is an invalid assumption. Some guns are designed primarily to hunt or for competition. I could deliberatly drive my car into a crowd of people, therefore using it for killing, but does that make all cars weapons?
I wonder what difference you see in these two phrases (I don't see any)
Some guns are designed primarily to hunt .
And this
a gun's primary function is a weapon to shoot something to most likely kill.
