Yuri - you answered my question inadvertently.
I had placed 'junk.prg' as default startup file under foxpro settings in file locations. indeed when i write a batch file as you had demonstrated, the mouse wheel does work.
while i have now a workaround solution - i wonder why it does not work when initated as a startup file.
