Hi Michel,

this is just my impresion. Just a full subjective view.

>>The one positive is that there is still a login on the start page so I do not need to search for it and can ignore the rest:

I just point out that it is good that it is still there. And I'm happy with it. This is the most important place where I have work on this page.

On the right, there used to be a bunch of additional top 10 articles, for example, for the magazine articles, such as all, beginners, intermediate and advanced. Now, it is only one section, with the move of the last 10 conference coverages from the left to the right. I also standardized the last issue to be in a top 10 format. So, as far as the right side goes, we ended up with a little bit less content. As for the left, as we moved the last 10 conference coverages to the right, there was room for the last 10 jobs and last 10 meetings. So, that makes it one additional section but some items on the left side are now gone so the result is also pretty much the same as it was.

Michel, it's just my impression. I feel annoyed by all those blinking shrill pictures. A waste of time to move my eyes to the important stuff.
For example the ad for subsription. It's shrill overloaded and hard to read.
Once there was a rule:
-no more then two fonts
-no more then two styles or colors

It's hard to express, please don't get me wrong: If I found something in this style in my post box I simply drop it without further attention. I would expect false play.

>>Green on gray is a real paint to everybody with partial color blindness (around 10% of all people). Is there realy a need for all those effects? I have on some places a 64K connection only and this makes it even more painfull (IOW this is why I do not check UT in the evening or on weekends).
>>Why grey letters on whased out blue background? I think its hard to read.

>Nothing changed on that. It is still the same background with the same font and the same font color. What you see is what was there since several years.

Those colors are bad all the time then. I think the "outer frame" has changed, thats where the blue on grey is annoying.

>>What I see is that your design does not fit into screen width, I have white bars left and right. So the central part (the one where I look for information) is squeezed without need. For all normal (not only on UT) operation I ignore any part on top left right for the expectation of advertisement. (Ad creep?)

>The design is about 40 pixels more in width than the previous design. That's about it.

Then it's just the optical impression that squeezes the inner area. The outer frame is to strong,
Anyway the page centered with wide bars looks a little bit lost on my 1600 pix wide screen. A page that will not fit screen width looks allways like poor design to me. (First impression?)

Thoss are just my two €0,02 thoughts. No need to argue
