If a few selfish people insist on their "freedom" to ignore traffic signals, it's more dangerous for everybody else, so it is proper for government to step in and "assist" the freedom-fighter not to endanger their neighbors. Of course if everybody starts ignoring the signals then order has broken down and the law is an ass.
Sure. When someone "selfishly insists" on his/her "freedom" then government is already entitled to know the best how to make it. Arbeit macht frei!
